Attapulgite

Introduction

The Mineral was named after Attapulgite, Ga, The source of first sample studied in 1935, By de lapparent. It is also know as Polygorskete's distinct clay mineral with a unique chain structure that gives it unusual colloidal and sorptive.

CHEMICAL COMPOSITION

Collodial application, adhesives, sealants and puttings, oil well drilling mud, Thickning and gelling liquids, binding, filling, sorptive uses ecolorization, paper reclaming, conditioning, pesticides carriers, Filter aid, pharmaceutical uses, cleansing products, catalytic application & other uses.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS

It crytallizes in monoclinic system as white clay like mineral (Fibrous under electron microscope). It is dull, soft brownish white or light cream in colour have white streak. It has a specific gravity 2.21 and bulk density 0.46 g/cc to 0.53 g/cc, PH value range from 8.9 to 9.6. The mineral is highly sorptive in its natural form. It takes up water rapidly to 200% of its own weight. This value is surpassed only by that of montmorillonite & sepiolite clay.

APPLICATION

Collodial application, adhesives, sealants and puttings, oil well drilling mud, Thickning and gelling liquids, binding, filling, sorptive uses ecolorization, paper reclaming, conditioning, pesticides carriers, Filter aid, pharmaceutical uses, cleansing products, catalytic application & other uses.
